CyberGhost and NordVPN are two famous names in the VPN world. They are the first choice of many users who want to hide their identity online. But which one is the best? That may be a tough question. That’s why we made this CyberGhost vs NorVPN comparison, where we analyze all the differences between them.
The locations that both VPN providers have chosen are ideal. Both CyberGhost and NordVPN are based in countries where there are no data retention laws. This guarantees that those governments won’t be snooping around their users. Also, these VPN providers don’t have to answer to agencies from foreign countries.
They both don’t keep any logs, which is a way of making sure their user’s activity is not recorded anywhere. Apart from that, both have the strongest encryption and protocols available.
Unlike the previous chapter, the differences start to be more evident when it comes to security features. NordVPN has an advantage here, they go beyond the usual tools. They offer resources that provide a safer experience, with more peace of mind. For example, there’s the possibility of having dedicated IP addresses. There are also options for the most “paranoid users”. There’s a double VPN encryption, or even Onion over the normal VPN connection, to increase security.
But that does not mean that CyberGhost doesn’t offer good options. They may not have as many tools, but it’s important to mention that they included the most important ones in their software, such as the Kill Switch. We really like their app protection tool, it’s very handy and unique.
Regarding the speed, NordVPN as a slight superiority. In average, we maintained 95% of our original Internet speed, which is a great result for a VPN software.
CyberGhost was very close, with 93% of the original speed. Also a very decent score.
Both VPNs have a similar number of server locations, but the difference in servers per country is quite noticeable. NordVPN has now more than 4000 servers spread around the world.
Torrenting and P2P
Both VPN providers adopted a similar policy about torrents. They allow BitTorrent traffic only in a few countries, approximately half of the total they offer. There are two reasons for this. Firstly, they avoid having servers in some countries that have harsh rules about torrent downloads. Also, this allows them to have dedicated servers just for torrenting. That means they are optimized for downloads and will achieve good speeds.
Again, the difference is minimal. NordVPN allows torrent downloads in two more servers than CyberGhost.
As most modern VPNs out there, these two are compatible with most devices and Operating Systems. On their last update, CyberGhost increased the number of simultaneous connections to seven. This is the highest number of connections we’ve seen on a VPN so far. NordVPN is right behind, with a total of six simultaneous connections.
Both of these VPN providers offer enough connections for a user to protect all his devices at the same time. Some users actually use the connections they have left to protect a person they trust. For example, each of these VPNs would be enough to protect a family of six (or seven).
Again, we see similar numbers. It’s very clear they are competitors, they are even offering the same promotion of 77% reduction of the original price for a 3-year subscription. When it comes to price, they are quite good, better than most VPNs, and we decided to make it a tie here.
CyberGhost vs NordVPN Conclusion
These are great VPN softwares that are actually very similar. The two of them offer great protection, but our final choice goes to NordVPN. As you saw, the difference is not very visible in most chapters, but the extra features are a different story. The security tools that NordVPN offers can make a huge difference. Such features give more comfort and peace of mind to the user who wants to make sure he is completely anonymous.
