Does CyberGhost Allow Torrenting?
CyberGhost is one of the VPN providers that allows and promotes torrenting in a safe way. The software is actually prepared for handling P2P specifically, as you will see later in this review.
On their website, it's also very obvious that they support file-sharing. All over it, there are mentions of torrenting and how CyberGhost hides it and makes it anonymous.
Does CyberGhost Save Logs With Torrent Activity?
When it comes to BitTorrent, not saving logs of the user's activity is of extreme importance. CyberGhost is very clear in its terms that it doesn't save any logs. Even if a government asks for information about their users, they don't have anything to give them.
Company Safety Details
This VPN company is based in Romania, which is a great location for the ones who care about privacy and anonymity. There are no data retention laws in Romania. That means that the Romanian government won't be snooping and asking for any info. And also, if any foreign government asks for any user's info, CyberGhost doesn't have to comply.
The default protocol is OpenVPN, but it's possible to change to IKEv2. We recommend not to change it, since OpenVPN is the most secure protocol. CyberGhost uses 256 bit AES cipher, which is the most advanced level of encryption and considered unbreakable. Another very positive point is the fact that this VPN uses shared IP addresses. In other words, all the users of CyberGhost use the same IP addresses, sharing them. That way, one single IP can't identify a single user.
Finally, it's great to see that they are one of the few VPNs using Perfect Forward Secrecy. This is an additional layer of security. It means that the key used to encrypt your connection will rotate and change to a new one every 60 minutes. Even if a hacker would decrypt one session (which would be almost impossible), he wouldn' have access to any previous or future sessions. That is because each key is unique, only used once.
The User Interface
The user interface is very pleasant and straight forward. The main window is divided in three parts, which give the user all the options and info that are needed to establish a connection.
On the left side, there are the available profiles and connection options. In the middle, you can choose a server to connect to. And on the right, there's info about your connection, such as the status and your new IP address. To have a better understanding of how it works, let's exemplify.
How to Torrent With CyberGhost?
To download torrents with CyberGhost, you simply have to select the option “torrenting” on the left side, just like the image above. After that, you will see all the servers that allow file-sharing. Double-click on the one you want and that's it, you are now connected to a server in that country.
A few tips for faster speeds:
Each country displayed gives you useful information that helps you choose the fastest one for you. If you look at the picture, you will see that each one shows the distance and load. And that's actually really helpful:
- The distance tells you how far the server is from you. That is useful because, as you probably know, the further you are from the server, the greater the speed loss. In other words, it's always better to choose a country that isn't very far from where you are.
- The load is showed as a percentage and it basically tells you how crowded a server is at that moment. If a server is being used by many users, it becomes slower. So, you want to avoid the ones that have a high percentage.
Finally, you can save countries as favorites. If you are happy with the speed of a server, just save it and it will be bookmarked and easy to find.
How Many Servers Allow Torrenting?
CyberGhost has approximately 6000 servers in 90 countries. They allow BitTorrent downloads in 72 of those locations. It's also important to mention that the servers in these 72 countries are optimized for file-sharing. That means that the downloads can achieve higher download speeds than a regular server.
There are plenty of features that help to maximize your anonymity. Some of them are important for torrenting and are worth mentioning:
If the VPN has an issue and stops working, your Internet connection will also be interrupted. By stopping the Internet connection, your real IP won't be exposed while the VPN is down.
DNS Leak Protection
On several occasions, Windows uses the default DNS servers, which are the ones from your ISP. Enabling this feature will force the use of CyberGhost DNS servers. That makes sure there are no leaks. That way, your ISP cannot see what you are doing.
Torrent Speed Tests
The speed was one of the biggest improvements in this last version of the software. They had issues with older versions, and this was one of the priorities to fix.
We were very pleased with the high speeds we achieved with CyberGhost VPN on many servers. Every VPN has an impact on the connection speed, especially when using high-level encryption. But very few VPNs have a minimum speed reduction, allowing the user to have a fast and stable connection. That is the case with CyberGhost, especially after the most recent upgrade.
The software can be used in many platforms and devices, such as Windows, Mac, Android, iOS, Linux, Rasberry Pi, etc… Each user can have 7 simultaneous connections. You can have all your devices connected at the same time. Or even letting someone you trust use the VPN at the same time as you.
CyberGhost's prices are quite good for a VPN with this speed and features. In our opinion, the most interesting detail is the fact that they have longer subscriptions than other VPNs. And the longer the plan, the higher the price reduction.
The 3-year plan is quite good, one of the lowest when compared to other popular VPN providers. They also have a money-back guarantee policy of 45 days. This period of time is more than enough for users to try the service and make a decision.

What Could Be Improved
There are many features and options in this software, but there is always room for improvement. At the moment we have one suggestion to make CyberGhost even better:
- They should add some servers for P2P in Asia and Africa. These users can connect to servers in other continents. But the huge distance would increase latency.
We confess that we were not big fans of older versions of CyberGhost, especially because of the speed. But this new version changed everything. They solved the speed problem and added features that gave us a great torrenting experience.
CyberGhost was careful in designing the software, making it rich in features, but at the same time very easy to use. It was a great surprise and we recommend it to all users who care about anonymity.
