CyberGhost VPN has recently released a new version of their software. They included improvements, such as new safety features and increased server speeds. We took a deep look and tested this VPN software extensively, to see how efficient it is when it comes to torrenting anonymously.
Does CyberGhost Allow Torrenting?
CyberGhost is one of the VPN providers that allows and promotes torrenting in a safe way. The software is actually prepared for handling P2P specifically, as you will see later in this review.
On their website, it’s also very obvious that they support file-sharing. All over it, there are mentions of torrenting and how CyberGhost hides it and makes it anonymous.
Does CyberGhost Save BitTorrent Logs?
When it comes to BitTorrent, not saving logs of the user’s activity is of extreme importance. CyberGhost is very clear in its terms that it doesn’t save any logs. Even if a government asks for information about their users, they don’t have anything to give them.

The User Interface
The user interface is very pleasant and straight forward. The main window is divided in three parts, which give the user all the options and info that are needed to establish a connection.
On the left side, there are the available profiles and connection options. In the middle, you can choose a server to connect to. And on the right, there’s info about your connection, such as the status and your new IP address. To have a better understanding of how it works, let’s exemplify.
How to Torrent With CyberGhost?
To download torrents with CyberGhost, you simply have to select the option “torrenting” on the left side, just like the image above. After that, you will see all the servers that allow file-sharing. Double-click on the one you want and that’s it, you are now connected to a server in that country.
A few tips for faster speeds:
Each country displayed gives you useful information that helps you choosing the fastest one for you. If you look at the picture, you will see that each one shows the distance and load. And that’s actually really helpful:
- The distance tells you how far the server is from you. That is useful because, as you probably know, the further you are from the server, the greater the speed loss. In other words, it’s always better to choose a country that isn’t very far from where you are.
- The load is showed as a percentage and it basically tells you how crowded a server is at that moment. If a server is being used by many users, it becomes slower. So, you want to avoid the ones that have a high percentage.
Finally, you can save countries as favorites. If you are happy with the speed of a server, just save it and it will be bookmarked and easy to find.
How Many Servers Allow Torrenting?
CyberGhost has approximately 6000 servers in 90 countries. They allow BitTorrent downloads in 72 of those locations. It’s also important to mention that the servers in these 72 countries are optimized for file-sharing. That means that the downloads can achieve higher download speeds than a regular server.
There are plenty of features that help to maximize your anonymity. Some of them are important for torrenting and are worth mentioning:
If the VPN has an issue and stops working, your Internet connection will also be interrupted. By stopping the Internet connection, your real IP won’t be exposed while the VPN is down.
DNS Leak Protection
On several occasions, Windows uses the default DNS servers, which are the ones from your ISP. Enabling this feature will force the use of CyberGhost DNS servers. That makes sure there are no leaks. That way, your ISP cannot see what you are doing.
The speed was one of the biggest improvements in this last version of the software. They had issues with older versions, and this was one of the priorities to fix.
Torrent Speed Tests
We were very pleased with the high speeds we achieved with CyberGhost VPN on many servers. Every VPN has an impact on the connection speed, especially when using high-level encryption. But very few VPNs have a minimum speed reduction, allowing the user to have a fast and stable connection. That is the case with CyberGhost, especially after the most recent upgrade.
What we like about CyberGhost VPN
- No logs
- Location in Romania (no data retention laws)
- 256 bit AES encryption
- Automatic Kill Switch
- DNS Leak Protection
- Shared IPs
- Fast Servers
- Automatic and Manual server selection
- Perfect Forward Secrecy
- 30 days money-back guarantee
What Could Be Improved
- They should add some servers for P2P in Asia and Africa. These users can connect to servers in other continents. But the huge distance would increase latency.
