CyberGhost VPN has recently released a new version of their software. They included improvements, such as new safety features and increased server speeds. We took a deep look and tested this VPN software extensively, to see how efficient it is when it comes to torrenting anonymously.
CyberGhost is one of the VPN providers that allows and promotes torrenting in a safe way. The software is actually prepared for handling P2P specifically, as you will see later in this review.
On their website, it’s also very obvious that they support file-sharing. All over it, there are mentions of torrenting and how CyberGhost hides it and makes it anonymous.

Does CyberGhost Save Logs?
The User Interface
The user interface is very pleasant and straight forward. The initial screen has six profiles to choose from. The first five profiles offer an easy experience to the user. If you click on one of them, the software will choose the best server for what you want to do.
How to Torrent With CyberGhost?
There are two ways of downloading torrents with CyberGhost. The first one is fully automatic. By clicking on “Torrent Anonymously“, the software will choose the best server available for that purpose. It will take into consideration your location and connection, and it will choose the best option automatically.
These profiles are perfect for the ones who want it simple, and don’t want to select servers manually. It only takes a single click, and you have a VPN connection.
Selecting a Server Manually
The second way is by selecting a server yourself. The “Choose My Server” profile is the opposite of the previous ones. It’s the manual server selection, made for the ones who like to check the details of each server. After selecting that profile, there will be a list of countries, like in the picture below.
CyberGhost has a total of 4800 servers in 59 countries. They optimized around 3000 servers for torrenting in many of those locations, so that users all around the globe can have a fast connection. Usually, those servers are optimized for file-sharing, being able to achieve great speeds.
There are plenty of features that help to maximize your anonymity. Some of them are important for torrenting and are worth mentioning:
If the VPN has an issue and stops, so will your whole internet connection, including your torrent client. By stopping the Internet connection, it won’t allow your real IP to be exposed while the VPN is down.
DNS Leak Protection
On several occasions, Windows uses the default DNS servers, which are the ones from your ISP. Enabling this feature will force the use of CyberGhost DNS servers. That makes sure there are no leaks.
Enabling this feature will bind programs of your choice to a VPN profile, and protect them. For example, if you bind uTorrent to the VPN, every time you turn it on, it will look for a VPN connection before it turns that program on.
The speed was one of the biggest improvements in this last version of the software. They had issues with older versions, and this was one of the priorities to fix.
Torrent Speed Tests
We were very pleased with the high speeds we achieved with CyberGhost VPN on many servers. Every VPN has an impact on the connection speed, especially when using high-level encryption. But very few VPNs have a minimum speed reduction, allowing the user to have a fast and stable connection. That is the case with CyberGhost, especially after the recent upgrade they’ve made.

What Could Be Improved
- They should add some servers for P2P in Asia and Africa. These users can connect to servers in other continents. But the huge distance would increase latency.
